Hi, This is your designated Google Ads representative calling. I’m here to provide one-on-one guidance and personalized recommendations on campaign strategy and execution. It is imperative that you meet with me to discuss these optimizations I’ve discovered in your Google Ads account right away. Without these changes, you are AT RISK of losing out on conversions! Schedule a meeting with me so your business doesn’t suffer the consequences!

Ever gotten one of these calls? I can tell you as a manager of over 10 Google accounts at any given time, I’m often drowning in emails and phone calls with exactly this type of language. While they often use very alarming verbiage to make you think that your account is in terrible shape and will never be able to achieve your goals in its current state, this is rarely true (especially when you have an expert campaign manager like myself!). The purpose of these emails is one thing and one thing only: get the account to spend more money.

  • They do not care about getting you more traffic or conversions.
  • They do not care whether the increased clicks/impressions are actually relevant traffic to your business or not.
  • They DO care if you start spending more money on advertising and opt yourself into more ways for Google to gather data for itself.

So what should you do about these so-called Recommendations from your Google rep?

Proceed with caution! I’m not saying that every recommendation is complete garbage, but you definitely need to do your own homework before blindly applying any recommendation from Google – whether it’s coming directly from your rep or showing up in the Recommendations tab of your account.

How to Prevent More Calls & Emails From Your Google Rep

I recently discovered a setting in the Google Ads account that has saved my sanity! You can significantly reduce the frequency of account optimization recommendations via email and phone (so far, it doesn’t appear to be a complete end but it’s much better). Here’s where you can find it:

  1. Click on Admin in the left navigation
  2. Then click on Preferences
  3. Under the Data Sharing section, you can turn off recommendations for your business. This will stop the emails and phone calls with bogus recommendations.
  4. Another step you can take while you’re at it is review your Notifications section. Here there are a few other options you can toggle off to reduce the amount of email you get from Google.
